Our Story …

Ladies and gents, this October Dean and Chris are embarking on a top gear style mission from Mackay QLD to Darwin NT in the shitbox rally. As the name suggests, we will be driving a bucket of crap that we can’t spend more than $1000 on. We have yet to buy the car but I promise you, it will be shittier than shit. The rally is done over 6 days, with the majority of those days spent in tears, laughter and sweat.

The rally is a fundraiser for the Cancer Council, we need to raise $5000 and would obviously love to raise more for the great cause. If you want the possibility to see Dean and Chris broken down (probably hung over and wearing dresses due to some stupid bet made with another team the night before)in the Australian bush trying to fix a hideous car, then please donate :)

We are also going to let you guys choose the name of our team, whoever comes up with the best name will get a large sticker of their face on the car 🤷🏻‍♂️

I (Dean) am currently still stuck in Hong Kong due to some virus thing, we are hoping we are in the final stage of this BS and I’ll be able to get back. If not the rally organisers have said we can move to next rally in Autumn 2022, so all will be good.

Cheers!

Dean and Chris

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,000, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

Update 16/3

We've decided to give regular updates here, as well as photos/videos as we progress. Our team is suffering from a total lack of harmony at the moment, being on different continents and specifically one of us always being at the gym anytime the more serious team member tries to call. The one in Hong Kong.

We're so impressed with all the donations since we started promoting this just a couple of days, and it's all starting to feel real. The next step is pulling the trigger on the perfect shitbox to traverse the northern deserts. Obviously the principal considerations are aesthetics, followed by finding time for Dean's dad to come and tell us if it works good in the engine or whatever.

We'll update as soon as the right shitbox comes along, I'm also planning on documenting all the incredibly professional and mechanically sound mods we do along the way.

Cheers!

Dean

Hey guys, a quick update on the rally. Unfortunately due to the ongoing issues with COVID and international border restrictions, it is near enough impossible for me (Dean) to commit to the rally this year. The organisers have told us we can roll over our entry to Autumn 2022, so don’t worry, Dean and Chris will still be embarking on the adventure.

By now we would have liked to have a car purchased we could show you, with regular updates on the “modifications” but we are going to delay this until I am able to get down to Aus, so Chris and I can work on it together.

We would like to thank everyone again for the donations, it really is appreciated. We will update everyone when it looks like I’ll be able to get down to Perth to find the perfect shitbox!

Cheers Dean and Chris

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

Over $26 million has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
