We are really pleased to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2021 Spring!! Our challenge is to get our Faded Falcon from CBR to the start line in Mackay, QLD- that's 2000km- then 3500km+ to Darwin.
Shitbox Rally is the largest community-led fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 11th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but we are hoping to raise a lot more towards the overall rally target of $2 million.
These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.
By way of background, Tony and Steve have been mates for decades, in fact we first met in the early 1990s. We have shared a couple of memorable outback driving experiences including the Simpson Desert crossing in 2002 and the Birdsville Big Red Bash in 2019. Throughout these trips Tony has proven his dedication to "passenger" status, while Steve has striven to hog the driver's seat by virtue of organising everything. But for the Shitbox Rally its going to be a massive team effort (right Tony?)
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,000, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
We have a Shitbox! This is an EB Falcon from 1993, rescued from oblivion at The Farm! Massive thanks to Pat Perre for donating the car and transporting it from Murrumbateman to CBR and to Pat and Mary for letting it clog up their front yard while we fix it.
The good? It runs and has a stereo.
The bad? No rear bumper, fuel pump is kaput, alternator suspect but most of all Tony is scared of the spiders that have taken up residence.

Welcome to our first sponsor, Craig Homann.
Ever thought rebuilding a V12 BMW is hard? Well you haven’t tried getting the Falcon Shitbox going!
Craig Homann Automotive has kindly stepped up to assisting in getting the Shitbox ready for the rally. Craig has for many years operated his own small business from Doyle Tce, Chapman where he provides mechanical repairs and servicing to all makes and models, with particular expertise in European makes. Craig’s day job is managing the service department at a prestige vehicle dealership. He has a fully equipped workshop at home (one could eat off the floor!). I have used Craig for many years for all my car servicing and repairs, and believe me there have been a lot given I am (was) a Landrover fan.
Bookings by appointment only via (email@example.com or phone 0410 433 730)

Thanks Kev and team!
The beast lives!
Pat worked his magic last week to get the fuel tank and fuel pump in and it purrs like a kitten...sort of. Then it was off for Tony to work his magic in Supercheap Auto.
Next step is a rego check to find out how much more work is needed...apart from brake lights, horn, power steering, air con, tyres, alternator it should be fine... sigh
here is a short video of the purring Beast, I'm sure that ticking noise can be fixed!
A lot has happened in the past couple of weeks. We now have a roadworthy and registered Shitbox!
Craig Homann has spent an inordinate amount of his time getting the many faults rectified.
He has fitted a new exhaust, alternator, power steering pump, front suspension, 4 new tyres and done a full service.
It runs surprisingly well for such an ancient vehicle, the ticking noise has stopped and even the air con works!
MASSIVE thanks to Craig.
Next steps are making the car look the part, watch this space!
CREATIONS JEWELLERS- you rock!

Another amazing sponsor! Wade and the team at Autobarn Tuggeranong have kindly agreed to donate some vouchers for our soon-to-be announced raffle and provide additional parts and consumables for the Shitbox. We are very grateful to Autobarn for this generous support. And massive thanks to Mary Perre for her work in seeking business sponsors and donors over the past few weeks.
Autobarn Tuggeranong have a massive range of parts and accessories for all models and impressive customer service from the knowledgable staff. Autobarn is located in Tuggeranong Square, shop 1/310 Anketell St just west of Bunnings. Ph. 6214 0600 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Breaking News- massive raffle to come! Through the amazing efforts of Mary Perre, we have had great success in getting donated goods and services for the silent auction. BUT with around 60 people now expected at the fundraiser on 8 May we have decided to skip the silent auction and instead run a raffle over the comings weeks and months. Hopefully this will mean we can raise a lot more money for the Cancer Council by offering up some fantastic raffle prizes.
So far one of the major prizes will be a $500 gift voucher to the Hellenic Club! Thankyou to the Hellenic Club who are renowned for their support for local sporting and community groups as well as charities.
Stay tuned for more more details...
Another great local supporter is on board- Thankyou Woolworths Tuggeranong! They have provided a $80 voucher which will be used for the raffle...we are grateful for this support to help us reach and maybe even exceed our fundraising goal. These sorts of vouchers are very popular and attractive prizes and this contribution is most welcome.
Well I must say the response to date to our call for donations and support has exceeded expectations. THANK YOU!
For anyone who intends to donate but has not yet done so, please be assured that a donation of ANY amount is VERY welcome and appreciated. There is no minimum (or maximum!), it's whatever you feel comfortable with. While we are on track to achieve our fundraising goal, we won't be stopping there if we can raise even more.
In the past couple of days we have secured a $50 and a $100 voucher from Autobarn and a $100 voucher from The Good Guys Tuggeranong. These will be used as raffle prizes, thanks very much to those local businesses! There are more raffle prizes to come including a very special first prize...to be announced on Saturday.
By the way- the weather is looking perfect for the fundraiser on Saturday night. Praise be...
WHAT A WEEK, what an incredible week and what a night we had on Saturday.
The pizzas were delicious and plentiful, the garden beautiful, the weather kind, the music inspriring, the company relaxed and very much in a giving kinda mood...
In the washup, we met all the event costs through guest contributions...we had a flying start to the raffle with 120 tickets sold...and the headline figure for money raised is $5000! That is truly an amazing effort from a relatively small but very solid group of family and friends.
We have now increased our fundraising target to $10K knowing we have a lot of raffle tickets to sell and many promises of donations that will surely be honored before tax time...
Thanks to everybody who has purchased raffle tickets and especially to Teresa Storey who has sold so many! We really appreciate all Teresa's work colleagues and contacts who have supported us. We have raised well over $1000 so far with more to come before the draw next Friday. The proceeds paid into the fund are shown in the Donations feed as raffle tix or anonymous.
